Donor Eligibility
Each year, millions of Americans take time out to give the gift of life. Because the American Red Cross knows how valuable that time is, we want you to understand the basic blood donor eligibility guidelines. These guidelines occasionally change with advances in medical science and testing.
In general, blood donors must...
-
be in general good health.
-
weigh at least 110 pounds.
-
have not donated blood in the last 56 days.
-
bring I. D. to the blood drive.
Typically, donors must be at least 17 years old to give blood, but this age restriction and the need for parental consent varies from state to state. Please check with your local Red Cross office.
Any specific questions about donor eligibility requirements should be directed to your local Red Cross Blood Services. Please visit the American Red Cross web site at www.RedCross.org or call 1.800.GIVE LIFE to find your local American Red Cross office. |
